What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a type of "cap" in the form of a tooth that is mounted on an existing and damaged tooth (for example, after deep and large root canal treatment) or which is installed in a dental implant implanted in the gums for the replacement of missing teeth and the restoration of the smile. The crown is a functional and aesthetic replacement for the tooth and allows the patient to chew and eat normally. Cases requiring dental crowns include:

  1. Protect a weak and damaged tooth so that it does not break or crack.
  2. Restore the appearance and function of a broken or cracked tooth.
  3. Cover, protect and support tooth-damaged teeth, which have large holes and very large fillings with very little remaining natural tooth material (after root canal treatment).
  4. To hold a dental bridge in place.
  5. To hide a very crooked tooth or one that has a significant stain on it. As an alternative tooth to a dental implant.
  6. To perform an aesthetic procedure to restore the smile and improve the appearance of teeth.

The essence of porcelain / porcelain dental crowns

In the past, metals of various types were used to produce dental crowns, but this has negative aspects both aesthetically and functionally and healthily. Porcelain crowns, also called porcelain crowns, are now the most widely used crowns, due to a combination of strength, durability, chewing function, aesthetic appearance and cost. The porcelain crown offers a natural and white look of a real tooth and it also allows for normal eating, as if it were a natural tooth that you have always had in your mouth and excellent condition.

There are several types of dental porcelain crowns, with the most common being the use of a dedicated and unique porcelain for the crown production:

  • Porcelain crowns in which porcelain coating is applied on a noble metal crown
  • Porcelain crowns in which the exterior is porcelain / porcelain and the crown is made of non-noble metal combined with noble metal
  • Crowns for teeth containing outer porcelain coating and inner part made of noble metal, eg gold, palladium or platinum
  • Full Porcelain Crowns - Advanced Dental Crowns Made of Only Special Compressed Porcelain and Without Metal
  • Porcelain and Zirconia Crowns - Crowns containing zirconia base and porcelain coating
